The Pukulatmuj Legend is told by the Mi'kmaq of the Gesgapegiag First Nation community on the south shore of the Gaspésie, Quebec. The story tells of supernatural little creatures who live in the area. A basketmaker says his father and grandfather told him they live up in the Carleton Mountain, but he does not know of anyone who has seen them. A local woman tells of finding tiny braids in her pony’s mane many years ago, and a man recounts warnings they had about what would happen if they undid the braids. Half truths, imaginative stories, or invisible beings? The pukulatmuj remain a mystery but the filmmaker says we need to go back to our roots, our teachings.
