Canada's kids are now leading the world's obesity race, outweighing even the United States. W5 takes a compelling look at the problems of obesity, told through one child's struggle to lose weight and the drastic measures his family look at to help him. Joseph is 11 and he's part of what is now being called a Canadian epidemic. Weighing 200 pounds, he's among the 1 in 3 Canadians who are either medically obese or overweight. W5 follows Joseph to a weight - loss camp in Upper New York state, and reports on his progress throughout his tough diet and exercise program. He and 500 overweight kids will collectively shed 10 tons of unwanted fat in a three week session. The story also tracks Joseph's progress after he returns to Canada to find out if he keeps the weight off or goes back to his old habits of eaing junk food and sitting still to play videogames.
