Kalu is a 9-year-old boy who lives in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia with his family and puppy, Bo. He is Liberian and Mi’kmaq and loves woodworking. He is very creative – he’s made a lot of things for his family, including a flower stand for his grandmother! At the pool, he shows us his swimming skills with his younger sister Soraya and his friends. When he isn’t swimming or making things, he likes to play an African game called Mancala with his afterschool group. Kalu also shows us how to make ground pea soup, one of his favourite Liberian foods – yum! After receiving an inspiring message from one his role models, he brings us to his grandfather's workshop where he shares his ambition to become a professional carpenter one day!
Sunny’s Quest features first-person stories told by Black children from across the country. Each episode showcases a different child and their unique perspective on their day-to-day hobbies, their talents, and heritage.
