We explore the story of Mexican art from the ancient civilisations of the Maya and Aztecs through the unique nation building mural art that followed the Mexican Revolution and culminating in cutting edge modernist design. Mayan temples featured complex stone carvings, and the Aztec city of Teotihuacan was a showcase of great art and architecture. Spanish religious structures brought colonial art, and by the 1860s artists like José María Velasco Gómez painted bucolic landscapes. Ornate public buildings were constructed, Diego Rivera Rivera created giant murals, and his wife Frida Kahlo’s works are preserved in museum that was her house.
