Filmmaker Karine Gerest visits Lauren Henson Victoria University in BC. Lauren’s research focuses on studying the genetic health of white bears and black bears along the coastal ecotone of British Columbia. She works in partnership with Kitasoo, Xai’Xais and Gitga’at nations, with field work conducted in their territories. Canadian west coast aboriginals are leaders in the protection of bears in the Great Bear Rainforest. They have fought for years to protect their environment. Traditional Indigenous knowledge is now considered just as vital a source of information as scientific studies.
