Canadian painter James Wilson Morrice (1865-1924) was admired and collected in Paris and London long before he achieved recognition in Canada. In 1890, he left Montréal to study art in Europe. The film charts the journeys and accomplishments of Morrice, whose art bridges significant trends from the 1890s to 1924. A visionary rebel, he inspired younger French and Canadian artists, particularly members of the Group of Seven, as well as Americans of the Ash Can school. His work evolved from a rich, dark, representational palette to paintings of bold luminosity.
