On January 27, 1945, Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet soldiers.

Auschwitz was a network of concentration camps built and operated in occupied Poland by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Auschwitz I and nearby Auschwitz II-Birkenau were the extermination camps where an estimated 1.1 million people—mostly Jews from across Europe, but also political opponents, prisoners of war, homosexuals, and Roma—were killed in gas chambers or by systematic starvation, forced labor, disease, or medical experiments.

Combining historic footage and interviews with Auschwitz survivors, this Canadian production examines the events that led to the creation of extermination camps across Europe. Survivors speak of the horrors they endured and the need for the modern-day world to prevent similar events from re-occurring.

A museum has been established by the Polish government at Auschwitz to help future generations understand what happened here.  Interviewees include Nate Leipciger, Toronto, a leader in Holocaust Education, and Angela Orosz, Montreal, who was born in Auschwitz in 1944.  She returned for the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, when survivors gathered to remember the atrocities committed here and lit candles at a memorial.  At this event, Ronan Kent made an emotional plea to the world for tolerance in the future.
