Serial killer Bruce McArthur took the lives of eight men in Toronto’s Gay Village. Mark Henderson, his first known survivor, tells his story to Avery Haines of CTV’s W5. In 2001 Mark was brutally attacked, suffering a fractured skull. Bruce McArthur confessed his attack to police but was given only 3 years probation, no jail time. In 2010 men began to disappear from the village, but police did not suspect McArthur, missing several potential clues despite Mark Henderson’s tip to them about McArthur. An Independent Civilian Review of Missing Persons Investigations was led by retired justice Gloria Epstein in relation to police procedures in these community crimes and Henderson, one of their interviewees, felt heard for the first time.
