The prison believes that keeping family contact is vital to reduce reoffending –a huge challenge when over 15,000 children are separated from their mothers every year. This instalment has no shortage of heart breaking stories from Kelly challenging the Family Court to renew contact with her young boys “I want my kids to have everything that I didn’t. I want them to feel safe.” to prisoner Lexi working out how to tell her young son what she is in prison for “now he’s getting older he’s started to ask me loads of questions. He wants to know why I’m here.” Paddy Wivell brings out the warmth, tenderness and laugh out loud humour in the most challenged of circumstances.

This follow up series from Spring Films builds on the success of PRISON by turning its gaze to the women’s estate and documenting the extraordinary work of the Governor and her staff in attempting to turn prisoner’s lives around.
