The multi-award-winning documentary series returns for a new series. This time its gaze is on HMP Foston Hall - a women's prison, where more than 300 women are incarcerated for everything from non-payment of fines to murder.

The series opener focuses on the First Nights Unit, where women can arrive for sentences as short as a few weeks. Expectations are upended with moments of warmth and humour as well as bullying, if inmates are suspected of ‘grassing’ or being ‘pad thieves’. 'It’s like St Trinian’s on crack' says one returning offender as the wing’s dedicated staff attempt to thwart the trading of illicit drugs. This is no easy task as some women come in with drugs smuggled ‘in lady parts’. Meanwhile romantic relationships feature on the wing where even straight women partner up, known in Foston Hall as being ‘gay for the stay.’

This follow up series from Spring Films builds on the success of PRISON by turning its gaze to the women’s estate and documenting the extraordinary work of the Governor and her staff in attempting to turn prisoner’s lives around.
