The post-war period in Canada was a golden age of progress and production. After the Second World War, Canada found itself in a time of affluence and industrial growth. As the nation developed into a true consumer society the manufacturing sector reacted to meet new needs, producing modern objects for people to enjoy. At this time Canada was one of the largest manufacturing nations - this was a landmark production boom.

Design by Decade explores the period from the Second World War until the end of the 1950s in Canada, examining some of the most interesting modern design objects that represent this flourishing era.

Program includes three segments:

  • Fred Moffatt: Post War Industrial Design (00:55-9:12)
  • Modernist Movement: The Canadian Wooden Aircraft Company (9:30-16:45)
  • Modernist Movement: Jacques Guillon - The Cord Chair  (17:01-23:49)
