“Theatre Beyond Walls with Paul Thompson” documents the fascinating story of a man, Paul Thompson, and a theatre company that ignited a cultural movement in English Canada. The 1970’s were a time of change and it took alternative theatre companies like Toronto’s Theatre Passe Muraille, coming out of legendary Rochdale College, to break down walls set up by a British colonized theatre style and class structure. This documentary describes the revolutionary decade of Thompson’s unique style of collective plays with successful shows such as Doukhobors (1971), The Farm Show (1972), I Love You Baby Blue (1975) and Maggie & Pierre (1980). Stunning archival footage brings to life the extraordinary theatrical accomplishments of these trailblazers and luckily they help tell the story with intimate interviews.
Featured interviews with Canadian Writers, Actors, Directors: Michael Ondaatje, Jim Garrard, Eric Peterson, Anne Anglin, Linda Griffiths, Rick Salutin, Graham Greene, Booth Savage, Paul Kelman, Joanna McIntryre, Janet Amos, David Fox, Miles Potter, Fina MacDonell, Ted Johns, Alon Nashman, Brad Fraser, Naomi Sniekus, Brenda darling, historian Don Rubin and of course Paul Thompson.
