Karen La Hay has been waiting for a long time. The 68 year-old recently came out as a transgender woman after a lifetime of living in the shadows in Medicine Hat, a small, and deeply religious, southern Alberta town. Follow Karen during Medicine Hat’s Pride week, setting the senior amongst the pageantry and celebration of the September event. But Karen has more on her mind than parties and parades.  Along the way we learn her backstory, a heartbreaking tale of abuse, denial and eventual acceptance.
