Bighorns at the Junction follows the story of filmmaker Robert Moberg as he attempts to find out why the Bighorn Sheep near his hometown in central British Columbia are struggling to survive. Moberg’s research indicates that Big horn sheep numbers have declined to almost unsustainable numbers in the Churn Creek and Junction areas of the Cariboo-Chilcotin. A pneumonia virus that comes from domestic sheep is to blame for the decline, along with loss of habitat, poaching and lungworm disease.
Churn Creek research ecologist Ordell Steen believes that human contact with nature is very important. Moving back home to Williams Lake and making this film led Moberg to a life-changing reconnection with nature. He tells the story of the declining Bighorn herds in the area with artistic cinematography revealing his passion for wildlife conservation and environmental awareness. And en route we learn about the challenges of independent film production.
