In northern Québec in 1950, nomadic Indigenous people still followed a traditional life style. The film shows two men of the Atikamekw First Nation leaving the Manawan Hudson's Bay Company Post with supplies, which they take by canoe to their family encampment. On the way they have unusual encounters with animals and birds. Particular attention is given to their expert techniques in paddling, running rapids, portaging heavy loads, fishing and making overnight camp.
