Mrs. Olga Spence, a widow, long-time postmistress and lifetime resident of Port au Choix on Newfoundland's great northern peninsula, describes what life has been like there, from the days of the motorboat to those of the longliner, and what she sees for the community in a time of change. Outspoken, and often critical in her views on local politics, welfare and health services, she nevertheless evinces a sense of pride in her community and its people.
