Almost wiped out in the 19th and 20th centuries, the northern right whale is the planet's most endangered large-whale species. Today there are fewer than 350 left. However, tantalizing evidence from genetic studies suggests there are more whales out there.

The ocean-going sailing ship Sedna IV and her science team are following the ancient route of early whalers on an historic mission around the remote Cape Farewell whaling grounds in the treacherous North Atlantic Ocean. This vast watery wilderness conceals many mysteries and maybe some new whales. Could this remote area be the key to the future of right whales?
