"I really believed those things... that only homosexuals, people who shoot drugs or are promiscuous get it." But Trudy did get it. At 20 years old, she became infected with HIV.

Like many teenagers in small towns, Trudy believed that HIV infection was something that happened to other people in other places. She was wrong. HIV is present in large and small communities in Canada.

Most teenagers are well informed about HIV and AIDS, but studies show that safer sex is still not the norm. Why not?

Through Trudy's story and frank conversations with a group of youths in a small town, this video examines the major issues surrounding teenagers' attitudes towards their own sexuality: the lack of communication with sex partners, peer pressure to experiment sexually and the role of alcohol and drugs in the spread of HIV.

Thinking Positive was filmed in a small community in Newfoundland, but this film is relevant to teenagers everywhere.
