Not long ago, many wild geese were pushed to the edge by commercial hunting and habitat loss. Today, whether filling the skies with cackling formations or lounging by the thousands in city parks--their populations are exploding. From the eastern Arctic to the southern US, Wild Goose Chase journeys into the lives of the city-dwelling Canada goose and the arctic-nesting lesser snow goose. Overabundant pest or exquisite wildlife? The experts and the public don't always agree. With wit and insight, Wild Goose Chase tackles a modern dilemma: Years of research have saved wild species from the brink of extinction, but what do we do when faced with too many geese? In a battle of wits between wily geese and urban authorities, meet the "goosebusters." Their mission is to seek out and re-settle newly hatched goslings. Despite the crackdown, local goose celebrities Marge and Homer return each year. They incubate their eggs in a flowerpot outside a busy Vancouver café. For 30 million years, wild geese have beaten the odds. Why should humans prove to be an insurmountable problem?
