From inarticulate grunts to bizarre made-up languages and strange smoke signals, Hollywood had a difficult time portraying indigenous languages in the past but in recent years, there has been a trend towards authenticity in the portrayal of indigenous languages in Hollywood movies. This trend towards authenticity is being spearheaded by First Nations actors and directors who have started making their own movies in their own languages.
