The devastating 2004 tsunami was a disaster for the people and economy of Sri Lanka, a country emerging from 20 years of civil war. We follow a Toronto immigrant, Sri Lankan social worker Satha, and her film student son, Aathi, as they return to visit Sri Lanka’s northeastern coast, where Tamils mingle with Muslims and Sinhalese Buddhists.
The Tamil Tigers have been fighting for their sacred homeland for more than two decades, and have emigrated in large numbers to countries such as Canada. Sri Lanka is still an area full of tensions and contradictions.
