War is a futile enterprise. Generals struggle with uncertainty, wagering lives while they guess at their enemy’s next moves. War’s certainty lies in its cruelty. It destroys one reality and merely replaces it with another leaving new tensions in its wake and the future, once again, uncertain.

The Battle of the Plains of Abraham, Quebec City, September 13, 1759 saw British general James Wolfe and the French general Marquis de Montcalm lead their armies into a battle that defined a nation. But, this is more than a war story; it is a tale of two peoples.

As we will see, however, the battle was also marked by some strange mysteries involving ominous poetry, telling artwork, a deadly gift, a ghostly lover, and the legend of Montcalm’s buried treasure.

Unexplained Canada examines the fact, fiction and possible folly of some our nation’s mysteries. Rather than viewing a mystery with total belief or attempting to debunk it, Unexplained Canada presents many perspectives to encourage viewers to draw their own conclusions.

NOTE: This video was originally produced in 2006. The producer has updated graphics and visuals in this newly released 2022 version.
