The centrepiece of this park is magnificent Mount Robson itself, the highest peak in the Rockies. It protects breathtaking natural features; rugged snow-capped mountains, broad and narrow valleys, precipitous canyons and glacier-fed lakes. The park protects the headwaters of the mighty Fraser River; the final stop for Chinook salmon, who spawn there. Mount Robson has long been a world-renowned destination for mountaineers. Controversy over who reached the summit first has raged for almost a century. The best-known of the parks's early settlers were the five Hargreaves brothers, whose legendary exploits still resonate in the glaciers, mountain passes and lakes that bear their name.
