The Witless Bay Ecological Reserve is comprised of four islands off Newfoundland's extreme eastern coast. The sheer cliffs and rocky outcrops of the tiny islands make them ideal landing and nesting sites for two million seabirds. The Witless Bay islands are the summer home of the largest Atlantic Puffin colony in North America, and the second-largest colony of Leach's Storm Petrels in the world. Humpback and minke whales are the most commonly seen species of the dozen whales that frequent the waters of the Bay. Majestic icebergs, fragments of ancient arctic glaciers, are often seen in the Bay as they drift south. Most visitors to the park see the islands on a local tour boat, which is often accompanied by traditional Newfoundland music and storytelling.
