Albert Einstein revolutionized the way we see the universe. After graduating in math from university, his first job was as a clerk in the Zurich patent office. This left him with lots of time to explore science and publish scholarly articles. His study of the photoelectric effect opened the door to the new field of quantum mechanics, and he won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921. He found that space and time connected in a very physical way, and his special theory of relativity was proven over time. The Nazi’s threats towards Jewish people in Germany led Einstein to emigrate to the United States in 1925. With rumours that the Nazis were working on a nuclear bomb, he suggested to Roosevelt that the US begin work this. The Manhattan Project eventually developed the first atomic bomb, but pacifist Einstein was never comfortable about his role in developing this destructive technology. When he died in 1955, his brain was preserved for study by future generation.
