Ian and Laura Tenniswood restore homes for a living in Nova Scotia. They purchased the historic Bay of Fundy Hampton House at auction for $50,000, and spent $600,000 in renovations, expecting to sell it for a profit. But weeks after it was listed for sale, the government put a legal hold on it claiming that the sheriff had not informed the previous owner, New York artist Mendi Matin, director of the Uranian Phalanstery, that his house was being auctioned off over an unpaid debt. Meanwhile the penniless Tenniswoods rent this spectacularly restored four-bedroom house to short-term guests, fearing they may have to return it to the previous owner. W5 also learned of other Nova Scotia property auction errors.
