Directed by Gemini Award-winning TSN Feature Producer Mike Farrell, PURPLE HEARTS shares the story of Daron Richardson, daughter of former NHL defenceman Luke Richardson, who took her own life at the age of 14 in November 2010. The tragedy shocked the entire country, including Daron’s hockey teammates – her best and closest friends. PURPLE HEARTS examines this remarkable group of young girls’ quest to honour Daron’s memory, both with their play on the ice and their youth mental health activism in the community. Their goal is simply, Do It For Daron. Do It For Daron (D.I.F.D.) soon became a symbol for youth mental health across the country.
