In her 8th grade, Cyara began experimenting with marijuana and alcohol in order to fit in and feel popular. The combination left Cyara anxious and depressed and she began a destructive cycle of self medicating. At 17, Cyara was a heavy marijuana user and was starting to experiment with chemicals. Her usage landed her in a foster home and in trouble with the law. As a condition for Cyara to move home, her mother insisted she go into treatment. It was the turning point for everyone. Although sober and clean for some time, Cyara continues to deal with past issues. Her biggest challenge is to reconnect with her family and rebuild the trust that was lost. It is a long process, but finally Cyara wins back her mother's trust and takes care of her younger sisters while her mother goes away for a weekend.
