In the early 1700’s the Haudenosaunee of Ohio Country were forced to choose between two feuding empires, France and Britain, to protect their lands. In 1753 Tanaghrisson, a Mingo leader and ally of the Iroquois Confederacy, supported George Washington in trying to drive the French out and protect his people. The Battle of Fort Necessity, the Battle of Jumonville Glen, the Battle of Fort Duquesne, and the Battle of Monongahela followed, and the fight spilled across the Atlantic to become the first global war, the Seven Years’ War. The Mingo Nation survived, but the world they knew and loved did not.
