The Wabanaki Confederacy (People of the Dawn) was formed to protect five Indigenous Nations in Atlantic North Ameria against their enemies, the Mohawk.  In 1605 the French colonists formed a mutually beneficial alliance with the Mi’kmaq. In 1607 English colonists settled in Virginia but when wars broke out over the next decades, the British learned that fighting in the wilderness was very different from the open battlefields of Europe. First Nations' people effectively used ambushes, cunning, scouts, fire, and European weapons to stop settler expansion into their territories. The British realized that they had to learn new battle tactics, so they recruited warriors from First Nations to retrain soldiers they called Rangers. Includes King Philip’s War, the Treaty of Utrecht, Acadia being handed over to Britain, various Rangers units, Mi’kmaq and Wabanaki resistance, the Seven Years War, and the Siege of Louisbourg.
