Meet Jackie Hildering, aka The Marine Detective, a woman dedicated to teaching people about the revival of humpback whales in her work with the Marine Education and Research Society.
Jackie Hildering, aka The Marine Detective, is a woman dedicated to teaching people about the importance of the ocean to the health of society. In Port MacNeil, North Vancouver Island, she works with the Marine Education and Research Society. The revival of humpback whales, since whaling ended in 1967, is a testament of the possibility of positive change. Tourists come to watch whale breach, diversifying the economy of the area. Jackie works to make boaters and fishermen aware of the potential of hitting, snagging or frightening these ocean mammals, and also about the impact of climate change and ocean toxins on them.
