Southern Africa is gripped in a punishing drought. Across the region plants and animals are suffering. At times like this water becomes critical survival and wetlands become magnets for life. This film is a celebration of South Africa's greatest wetland – Lake St Lucia. There is food available and enough water for the animals that depend on standing water to survive – including the parks hippos, crocs and numerous water birds. But the system does face challenges – the mouth is artificially closed cutting it off from the ocean. This has devastating consequences for some of the parks habitats such as mangroves – which have fallen silent.
