As the Salem witch trials continue throughout the summer, two shocking incidents disturb the pious villagers of Salem: George Burroughs recites the Lord’s Prayer perfectly right before his execution, a feat that a witch should not be able to do; and Giles Corey is pressed to death after refusing to answer to his accusers. Despite this the authorities are determined to crush the conspiracy of witches at whatever cost. In September the trials and executions are suddenly suspended by Governor William Phips, who learns that members of the elite, including his wife, are now being accused of witchcraft. As the prisoners are released, Salem must now deal with the aftermath of the witch trials: lives ruined; families destroyed; and the deaths of many innocent people.
