For many generations, this remote part of the Yukon was the ancestral home of the Kluane First Nation. Today diesel power provides the energy for the community. With fossil fuels hastening climate change, the environment is being reshaped. Melting glacier waters that historically fed Kluane Lake are now flowing towards the Pacific Ocean, causing a dramatic drop in the water level of this culturally and economically important lake. The Nation created renewable energy projects to sustain their power needs, in line with their cultural values. Three wind turbines, the largest in the Yukon, are setting a benchmark for clean energy success among remote Yukon communities.

Power to the People is a series that discovers how indigenous people, values and wisdom are guiding the way to a sustainable, clean energy future. Thirteen half hour episodes deliver emotive, indigenous inspired stories that demonstrate how renewable energy is empowering communities towards a post carbon future.
