In Treaty 3 territory which covers parts of Ontario and Manitoba, Erin Goodpipe and Saxon de Cocq go on a deep exploration into the importance of water for the Indigenous peoples here. They learn about how colonization has been responsible for the contamination of this important resource, and how this has impacted the health and safety of those in the region. At a road blockade in Grassy Narrows First Nation, ON, a woman poisoned by mercury explains environmental racism. The struggle to protect the water and land is ongoing.

“Treaty Road” is an in-depth 6-part documentary series that follows Métis writer, director and producer Saxon de Cocq and Dakota/Anishinaabekwe educator and researcher, Erin Goodpipe as they travel the old roads to uncover the truth about the signing of the controversial documents, the Numbered Treaties. They examine the role that Saxon’s ancestor, James Mackay played in the numbered treaty negotiations.
