Native American mounds are ancient earthen structures presumed to be used for burial and sacred rituals. The formations including pyramid platform mounds, conical mounds (usually burial mounds) and effigy mounds (in the shape of an animal or person). The largest is Ohio’s Serpent Mound, an earth and stone mound with eastern bends that point towards the rising sun and moon at summer and winter solstices.

Shayla visits Grave Creek, a burial mound in West Virginia, built by the Adena people over 2000 years ago. The Sacra Via, circa 900 CE, is a sacred walled walk that led from the Hopewell culture’s Quadranaou ceremonial mound to the river. Doc concludes with a story “Confounds by Mounds”, a Cherokee traditional tale.
