Rama Police constable Russ Cohoko and members of the Orillia OPP with community members pursue a llama that has broken loose. Animal herding is not normally taught in police academy, and the llama leads a merry chase before it’s captured.

Rama Police constable Penny Dunlop spots a car parked in a handicap zone. When the driver badmouths her and is arrested, a search of his car turns up a cache of drugs.  The driver gets two years in jail.  Penny gets a promotion. Cst. Dana Boldt and Russ respond to a frivolous noise complaint at a Father’s Day Party, and help a local elder break into his locked house without letting his cat escape.

Sgt. Larry Martin and an Anishinaabe elder describe the importance of police being part of the community, helping people, and acting as peacekeepers. It was the opening of Casino Rama in 1996 that created the need for a full time police service on the reserve.

Anishinaabe people have lived in the Great Lakes Region for thousands of years, passing their traditions and languages from generation to generation. An elder (speaking in Anishinaabe) describes how the people of the Rama First Nation continue to honour their ancestors through traditions like the sweat lodge ceremony where that can speak to the creator. They also educate visitors about the culture and traditions and the community police participate in these events.
