“Where would we get food from if there were no grocery stores?” Zoey – in her quest to make her own egg-salad, tomato, and lettuce sandwich from scratch – finds out that foods grow on farms and farming started 8,500 years ago. She borrows some chickens to lay eggs – lots of eggs!  We learn about where bread comes from, the history of ketchup, world-wide sources of our foods, pesticides and alternative ways of controlling insect pests, rooftop farming, growing vegetables from seed, school gardens, and community food gardens, and the environmental and nutritional advantages of buying locally grown food.
