Arts and culture strengthen the identity of a community. As well as breathing new life into society, they act as an ‘economic engine’ and can also change mentalities. By discovering their creative potential, young people all over the world channel their energy into the arts and contribute towards the creation of a better world. * Gavin Sheppard, artist and producer founded I.C. Visions and cofounded of a youth program called the Remix Project. He encourages troubled youngsters to develop their creative potential. Hip-hop music is a cornerstone of the Remix Project. * Reine Lebel, a doctor’s daughter, became a psychologist and specialist in post-traumatic stress. On travels to Malawi, she was shocked by the misery and sickness of its people; she subsequently joined Doctors Without Borders to help people around the world. * Gil Favreau, as Director of Social Action and Responsibility for Montreal’s Cirque du Soleil, concentrates his efforts on donations and fund-raising events.
