The textile industry, at the forefront of the industrial revolution for several centuries, is one of the planet’s most polluting modern-day industries. Of principle concern is the cultivation of cotton which is a heavy consumer of pesticides. It is high time for a new industrial revolution. Architects of Change featured: * Dany Filion, from Montreal, set up a business named Shoo-Foo, a production line using bamboo fibres. Its objective: to offer high quality products to environmentally concerned consumers wishing to reduce their ecological footprint. * Yanne Larosa is Marketing Vice-President of Leigh Textile, a company that specialises in recycling textile waste. He put his heart and soul into this project, which aims to reuse clothes and fabrics that were heading for the junkyard. * Sarah Bonnemaison, Director of the design firm Filum Ltd., professor of architecture at Dalhousie University set herself the challenge of integrating human movement into her ingenious structures. She is renowned for her 2011 Canada Winter Games canvas shelter. She is fascinated by “tensile” architecture. Also available in French: Tisser un avenir durable
