This animated geography video lesson visits Christ the Redeemer, the statue of Jesus Christ in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. The concrete and mosaic statue, one of Brazil's most famous landmarks, is 30m tall, overlooking the city from the top of Corcovado Mountain, one of the modern wonders of the world. Pedro Maria Boss, a Vincentian priest, came up with the idea for the statue in the 1850’s but it was not until after World War I that construction began, funded by the diocese and the citizens. The final design had Christ’s arms stretched wide, watching over the citizens of Rio.
