Do insects talk? Many insects possess specialized organs of perception, allowing them to communicate with sounds or chemical signals. Bees have ultraviolet vision, male moths detect the females’ pheromones, yellow paper wasps use wagging movements, and ants use touch to communicate. Insects can perceive sound, and some detect ultrasound, or infrared emissions. Fireflies use bioluminescence to attract a mate. Some insects produce sounds with their legs or wings. Taste, smell or mimicry can protect insects from predators.
