Until the 15^th century Spain had been conquered first by the Romans, then by the Moslem Moors. When King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella expelled the Moors and funded the journey of Italian Christopher Columbus to the New World, the riches he found ushered in a golden age for Spain making it the most powerful nation in Europe as well as a global superpower. We explore historic sites significant to the Spanish Empire including the medieval, walled city of Avilla, Granada’s Alhambra, the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan, Spanish forts constructed across the Americas, missions and cathedrals built in the Americas, the Spanish palaces of Catholic kings, and the port city of Cadiz.
