This video shows that much of what we know about children is learned through observation. Using the four areas of development: physical, cognitive, language and social-emotional, the viewer is guided through several sequences of naturalistic observation of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Looking closely at movement, expression and behavior, viewers may understand what the child is expressing. Four types of observation are used with children from infants through school age. From the ongoing assessment of children, educators link the planning for student learning to what they know about the child's accomplishments, interests, strengths and areas to achieve.
