Valerie Murray, head gardener for Friends of Government House Garden Society, Victoria, BC, manages this lavish public garden, with over 200 volunteers. In the same city, A social enterprise harvests fruit from people’s unused fruit trees to feed community members in need. And the New Horizons Activity Centre in Victoria provides a place for seniors to socialize and volunteer in the garden.  A civic initiative provides them with seedlings to grow on their balconies.
