An account of sea rescue on a storm-tossed Atlantic. The hero of the film is a big black tug, the Vigilant, veteran of many bouts with hurricane seas. Alerted to the disaster by a Department of Transport radio listening post, the Vigilant sets out to find the helplessly-drifting steamship Disa somewhere in mid-ocean--an example of the kind of drama that takes place whenever the news media report a ship in danger and a tug on the way.
