Kinmount, Ontario joined the growing number of rural communities across Canada without health care, but the town fought back. This film is about their victory against the odds.
When initial advertising failed to produce a physician, the community raised funds and converted an empty office building into a modern clinic. And still they waited. When Dr Elena Mihu finally answered an ad, Kinmount held its breath. Would she stay?
With a surprising degree of openness, A Country Doctor follows the first years of Dr Mihu's practice--both the victories and the tragedies, as she struggles to care for her community. As Kinmount tries to forget what life was like without a physician, the waiting list to join Dr Mihu's practice grows. Canada needs a thousand such doctors.
