Anecdotes from the diary of a country nurse pay tribute to a valiant figure who has all but disappeared from the Canadian scene. The story takes us to the time when Nurse Marie Lafontaine first brought health and medical services to the little village of St. Pierre, Québec. A series of flashbacks, based on records in her diary, recount many of her experiences and show her sympathetic understanding of her patients' needs. The same diary gives to her successor, who inherits the newly established medical centre, a better appreciation of her own role.
