Man has been weaving threads since the beginning of time and this episode celebrates this intricate tapestry of tradition and human emotions; through the journey of four amazing craftspeople who continue to maintain this knit. On a remote island off the coast of Scotland, Ann Marie Henderson weaves the durable, rough and loyal fabric of Harris Tweed considered one of the great “luxury textiles” in the world and a repository of Scottish culture, heritage and folklore. In Nanjing, China another fabric continues another proud heritage in the form of Nanjing Brocade. Here Jin Wen, the only National Master of this craft spends years decoding ancient craftsmen’s puzzles to restore this timeless but lost craftsmanship.
At the posh address of 16, Via Fatebenefratelli in Milan lies Sartoria Caraceni, often described as one of the finest tailoring houses in the world. Inside, Carlo Andreaachhio and the Caraceni family carry on the prized craft of Milanese tailoring that has been their treasure for over six generations. Another master tailor, Antonio López Fuentes, has been dressing the world’s greatest bull fighters for the past 50 years. His bespoke tailor shop founded in Madrid, Spain is considered the best in the world today.
